New Languages!

    Yesterday, I added Kernewek (Cornish) and Sámegiella (Sámi) to Indigenous Tweets, and was happy to see there are at least 27 people tweeting in Kernewek. 

    I also added translations of the Basque and Wolof pages, thanks to Julen Ruiz Aizpuru and El Hadji Beye for those.   I'd like all of the pages to be translated eventually; please get in touch if you're willing to help with that.  There are just 13 short strings to translate into each language:

    Kevin - good project. Check this out, Welsh language twitter feed, an adaptation of technology developed by the Basques:

    - it's growing daily with the technology to 'find' tweets which are in Welsh. The column on the right says the most popular tweets now ('N' for 'nawr') Day ('d' for 'dydd') and month ('m' for 'mis').

    Thanks for the links David. I really like umap - hoping I can share some of the data I've found with them. I'm a big supporter of these kind of cross-minority-language collaborations. We say "Ní neart go cur le chéile" - no strength without working together.

    just to correct a couple of the Welsh translations above:

    Thanks Steven and our Asturian friends for the translations. Asturian is turning out to be challenging in terms of language recognition - it's statistically pretty close to both Catalan and Spanish, but I'll keep working on it.     It's easy enough for me to update them when you're able to get your hands on an Ewe keyboard. Also, if you use Firefox, you might enjoy trying our "accentuate.us" add-on - it allows you to type Ewe text as you did above and it adds the special characters automatically: http://accentuate.us/

    The only problem is that we have very little data on Ewe so the performance is very bad (only 90% of words correct - most other languages are better than that).

    Let me know if you're interested in working on this or other resources (like a spell checker?) for Ewe!
